Amazon’s biggest sales event of the year, Prime Day, is happening July 16 and 17 and is an exclusive perk for Prime members. A free trial (more below) will allow you to shop the sale. Check out our Prime Day deals hub, where we’re rounding up the hottest early discounts and will be tracking the best deals across tech, fashion, home, kitchen, beauty, pets, furniture, and more throughout the event.

If you aren’t already one of the millions of Amazon Prime subscribers, you can try it out for 30 days free of charge. A Prime membership allows you to save big on Amazon devices, services, electronics, home goods, and hundreds of thousands of other products year-round.

A Prime membership typically costs $14.99 per month or $139 for a full year, which may seem steep, but it’s still completely worth it. To put it into perspective, JPMorgan estimated the true value of a membership was $785 in 2018 and has likely gone up in value since then.

Fast and convenient shipping, free video and music streaming, and access to Amazon Prime Day are just a few of the Prime membership perks.

First-time subscribers can sign up for a 30-day trial to experience all the benefits before committing to a paid subscription. Doing so will grant you free shipping on Amazon’s daily deals, access to deal events like Prime Day, and allow you to try out other features of Prime before you decide if you want to pay for it.

Amazon also offers discounted Prime memberships for the following groups:

$6.99 per month for qualifying customers in select US government assistance programs, such as holders of the EBT card. Confirm your eligibility, and start your Prime membership here. Six-month trial and $7.49 per month afterward for students. Confirm your eligibility and start your free 6-month trial here

    What is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is a shopping event exclusively for Prime members; it usually occurs in June or July. Prime Day 2024 is being held on July 16 and 17.

Introduced in 2015, Amazon Prime Day started as a one-day-only retail holiday for Prime members. The goal was to overtake Black Friday as the year’s best sales event. Now, the deal event is so popular that several retailers offer competing sales during Amazon Prime Day.

Amazon also introduced a special Prime Early Access sale in October 2022 that included early Black Friday deals and similar discounts to Prime Day.

Can I shop Prime Day deals during my Amazon Prime free trial?

Yes. During the 30-day trial period, Prime subscribers can access everything that comes with a membership, including access to Amazon Prime Day deals while the sale is active.
